The video I posted today is a song performed at GCC a couple of years ago. The original song is from Matisyahu aka Matthew Miller. Matisyahu is a Hasidic Jew whose music is a mixture of reggae and rock. The song that is being sung in the video is "King Without A Crown." The peformance was much more impressive when I was actually two rows from the stage, but I still like the video.

The video I posted is Paramore. Devon and Andrew got me to listen to their music and I loved the lead singers voice. Haley is the same age as Devon; she turns 19 on December 27th and Devon turns 19 on December 22nd. Devon says that she is "hott" and I have to agree. If I was a teenage boy, a poster of her would be on my wall. Maybe I am confused. I have never seen a boy's room with pictures of girls all over it. As pre-teens, my sister and I had our walls covered with pictures of boys. Debbie even had them on her ceiling. Robby Benson, Shawn Cassidy, Leif Garrett, and The Bay City Rollers made our hearts pound faster. What dorks.

I have been busily filling up my Juke with music. Ok, I am not even close to filling it up. I have synced just about everything I have on my computer and only used .2 Gig out of 2 Gigs. I think I need new music for Christmas. Maybe someone would be nice and give me a giftcard for I-tunes. Kids? Craig? If you are reading this - take the hint. Make your way-cool mom/wife very happy this Christmas with very little work. Drive to Wal-Mart and pick up the gift card. It will make your life very easy. Anyhow if you look at my list of music, you will see that I have very eclectic taste: classical, opera, instrumental, classic rock, alternative, praise and worship, Christian rock, grunge. The only thing you probably won't see is country. Sorry Marilyn, you have not made me into a fan yet!

RUSH

Yesterday Devon told Craig that he heard that Rush is playing in Indianapolis on August 26th. Naturally Craig wants to go. Last night I was on the internet purchasing four tickets - one for Devon, one for Craig, one for Craig's brother and one for Craig's best friend. The four men are taking a road trip. I doubt that any of them have counted the actual cost: tickets with parking were over $300.00, gasoline, food, and knowing them - a day of work missed on the next day. Let's face it, they won't be home until 3:00am and with the exception of Devon, they are not young bucks. They don't function well without their sleep. Somehow I don't think a rock concert is worth all of that. Men, they never grow up.

Speaking of Devon - he got a "promotion" yesterday. He goes from general grunt, to working on the line. He will work with plumbing. That means he has to be at work at 5:00am - which is frequently the time he is going to sleep. He will make $10.00 an hour and if he can keep up the pace, he will get bonus in 60 days. I have no idea what bonus is, but from what I have heard about trailer factories, he has the potential to bring home much more than Craig does.

This new job has me very worried. The drug of choice at trailer factories is "crank" or crystal meth. Of course there are those who stick with caffeine based "speed" and the group leaders and managers often use cocaine. After hours most employees smoke pot. I know Devon gets high and I am terrified he will move up to harder drugs. I love my son and I am sure he doesn't have a clue how much I worry about him.

Music on my computer

During Christmas break I went to the public library and checked out a bunch of CD's and ripped them to my computer. I got stuff that I don't normally listen to, plus some old stuff. One of the CD's I got was Peter Frampton's "Rock" from 1994. Now I haven't listened to Peter Frampton since I was a kid, so I got on You Tube and looked up "Baby I Love Your Way." I had to put it on my space as a real blast from the past - even though the video is from the 90's and not the old 1976 video. I think Peter is a whole lot more attractive clean cut and bald than he was with his long hair and "karate outfit." ;-)

Some of the other CD's I checked out were mixtures of classical music, Rascal Flatts, Ruben Studdard, The Police, A String Tribute to Nickleback, Kenny G., U2, and Yanni. I asked my husband to burn a copy of Aerosmith "Toys in the Attic" for me while he is at his friends house this evening.

A Ring Tone

My darling husband has set my ring tone on his phone to be "Crazy Train" by Ozzy Osbourne. It includes the "all aboard!" and the evil laugh, followed by the bass. It sounds great. I think that might be the only Ozzy song that I have ever liked. I never did know all of the words until now:

Today on the way home from work I was jammin' to my favorite classic rock station. Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith came on and I was instantly young again. When the song was over, I had to laugh at myself. I used to fight with Devon about his music - especially the lyrics. Then I realized that "my" music wasn't all sweetness and light. I liked the shock value of rock and roll as a teenager. Kids these days aren't any different in that aspect. Somehow my parents lived through it and I didn't turn out to be a drug addict, an alcoholic or a bum on the street. So, here are the lyrics to the song on my media player - Sweet Emotion:

I have never listened to country music - at least not willingly. Devon told me that I would like Rascal Flatts and Kenney Chesney. My hubby told me he heard this funny song called, "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy." I didn't believe him, but I did a search on You Tube and sure enough Kenny Chesney has a video of the song (which I have put on my media player). Now when I think of Craig driving his green Johne Deere zero radius lawn mower, I have to sing that song!

A video from YouTube just doesn't give this song justice, but I posted it anyhow. "Tusk" by Fleetwood Mac is a song that I can listen to over and over in the car - very loudly. Yes, I am stuck in the 80's. Since it is such a short song, it is easy to listen to at least three times in a row. My kids ruined my Fleetwood Mac CD, so I am going to have to get my sister to burn one for me.
