should have the whole package - looks, talent, stage presence, personality. I don't see that type of talent on the show. Ok that is my 2 cents worth. It is actually worth less than that because I do not watch regularly AND I cannot sing a note. *g*

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-04-18T10:15:50Z</dcterms:modified>

It was a great surprise...

For the past couple of weeks, my sister, brother, dad and I have been planning a surprise party for my mom's 65th birthday. I haven't been able to blog about it because I was afraid my mom would visit my space and then the surprise would be ruined. I can hardly believe it, but my mom didn't have a clue. We did all of the planning with my dad through e-mail and instant message. My dad's idea of keyboarding is the old hunt and peck method, so it was hard work for him to communicate that way!

Dad was up at 2:00 in the morning with my mom's address book typing out the guest list and sending it to me by e-mail. There were between 23 - 25 invitations to be sent out. My sister and I designed the invitations on her computer and mailed them. We made Maxine invitations because my mom loves her. We dubbed our project "Operation Maxine." My brother and sister-in-law brought some food, the decorations, and paper products, and beverages. I made my mom's favorite hot cheese dip with Fritos. My sister brought some appetizers and balloons and a poster full of Maxine pictures and sayings. Dad ordered a cake, a cheese tray and a veggie tray. We had a ton of food.

Dad asked mom out for lunch and made sure they drove far enough out of town to waste some time. While they were gone my brother, sister-in-law, my sister, and I went to their house to decorate and get everything set up. Dad brought her home a little early so we kids had the opportunity to yell, "Surprise!" before all of the guests started arriving. We had people from four different cities. When I was younger, my family moved around some, and my parents have friends from each place we lived. I never did get an accurate count of how many people we had, but I would guess around 20- not including family members.

There were plenty of ornery cards and gifts - a few nice ones too. My sister and I went together and got my mom a pink terry bathrobe with Maxine on one pocket. It says "Absolutely Crabulous." It was so much fun to read all of the rotten cards. My mom has a great sense of humor and her friends do too. I'd say the party was a great success, but now I am whipped. I could lay down and go to sleep right now, but I must keep doing laundry! Ta- ta for now!

You will find out why, later." Today I scanned the grocery sale ads and found that the store I was going to had a sale on [yellow tail] wine. It has a picture of a kangaroo on it and it is made in South Eastern Australia. Now I don't know a merlot from a chardonnay, so I spent a great deal of time reading the back labels of each type of wine, trying to determine what would be the least bitter. All the time I was praying that one of my students didn't walk in the door. The display was right inside the entrance on the grocery side. Finally I chose [yellow tail] chardonnay. This is what the label said: The Chardonnay nose leaps from the glass and displays a lovely peachy vanilla and coconut aroma. The wine has a rich creamy toasted finish on the palate whilst being silky smooth and easy to drink. Don't hip hop around with this one, we don't want you to spill a drop. Great with pasta and chicken or even kangaroo tail soup. I wonder if it will go with cheese and crackers? By the description I am picturing a nose jumping out of my glass and what does it mean to have a toasted finish? Oh well, I will let you know how it goes!

_________________________________________________________________________________

So my wine choice was nasty, but not as bad as the merlot wines. My favorite was "Pink Kitty." Never heard of it? Neither had anyone else at the party, but it won the popular vote for the best wine. The woman who brought it to the party made the label herself - on her computer - complete with an adorable white kitty with a hazy pink tint to it. The wine was a cleverly disguised bottle of Arbor Mist Sangria. The wine with the funniest name was Fat Bastard. Funky Llama was voted as having the best animal picture. From now on I think I will stick to wine coolers and Mike's Hard Lemonade. I am not going to develop a taste for wine unless it tastes like Kool-Aid or fruit juice!

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-10-22T01:54:31Z</dcterms:modified>

What does your name mean?

http://www.birthdayalarm.com/name < Go here to find out what your name means and how popular it has been in the past 100 years.

Here is what I found out about my family's names:

Kathleen Susan = pure, virginal; lily

Craig Allen = from the crag; fair, handsome

Devon Gregory = poet; watchful, vigilant

Andew Michael = manly, courageous; who is like God?

Victoria Melanie = winner, conqueror; dark-skinned

My thoughts:

I have always liked the name Kathleen but the meaning is not exactly on the mark for me! ;-)

Craig is grouchy and antisocial, like someone who has lived in the mountains, and when he was a kid he had white blonde hair. I thought he was incredibly handsome when we met.

Devon is not a poet, but I think he is a deep thinker. I believe his anxiety makes him watchful.

Andrew absolutely has no fear. I loved the name Andrew because in the bible Andrew was the scout with the good report about the Promised Land. I pray that he grows more like Jesus.

I had nothing to do with Victroria' name, but I think of it as a prophecy over her life. She will overcome her background and genetics to have a victorious life. As for the name Melanie, well that is way off the mark, because she is blonde and fair.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-09-28T00:02:49Z</dcterms:modified>

Blissful Evening

We are having a heat wave. Temperatures in the 90's and humidity right up there too. The heat index has been hovering between 105 - 110. Our two window air conditioners are running continuously. The electric bill will be a heart stopper.

Last night Craig got home from a hot day in the warehouse and wanted to go out in the pontoon boat and take a swim. We asked my friend Marilyn and her husband Bill to go with us. It was a wonderful evening. We putted around the lake and then Craig stopped and dropped the anchor. He and I jumped in for a swim. The water was warm, but still refreshing. We stayed out on the boat until almost 10:00pm.

During our two hour tour, we were chased by a bee. I swear it was something right out of a cartoon. A bee started flying all around Marilyn, and then when she shooed it, it went to the next person, and the next, until it had pestered each of us. Craig turned up the throttle a little bit to get away from the bee. It flew away from us and then came zooming back at us like a rocket. Each of us swatted at it and tried to get it to fly away. It would not leave. Craig finally had to go full speed to get away from that bee. It still chased us, zooming at us with a speed that I didn't know bees posessed. Craig finally had to make a few turns to lose it. I swear that bee was out on a mission. I didn't know we had killer bees in Indiana.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-08-01T13:45:46Z</dcterms:modified>
